So I’m doing some work on this old 73 super beetle. I noticed there’s only one jack point at the rear of the vehicle On each side. Seems kind of strange to jack up the whole side of the car to change the front tire.🤷🏼♂️ I wonder what Volkswagen was thinking. Perhaps someone will chime in as to why this is. _________________ Hella ya! |

You are correct, it raises the entire side.
Personally i would never use the stock jack and jack point. If you are home then use a scissor, bottle or floor jack to raise the cornet you're working on. _________________ Glenn

I do have lots of methods for lifting up the car in my garage but I’m just thinking when I’m on the road seems kind of silly to have the whole side of the car lift it up to change your front tire doesn’t seem safe to me LOL. _________________ Hella ya! |

Agreed.
Get a scissor jack. I have one from a Porsche 928, it's aluminum, so very light, and very compact.

Are the super Beatles the only model with one jack point I’m just wondering? _________________ Hella ya! |

I never had a problem using the stock jack and jack point to change a flat tire. It works just fine. The car only weighs 1600 or so pounds. Follow the procedure in the owner's manual.
Since I live where the ground can be very soft, it helps to keep an approximately 6" or 8" square piece of plywood to use as a pad under the jack.
I don't use the stock jack for any other work on the car. _________________ Brian

For flat tires. I use the rear jack point.
On any other work, I use a floor jack and jack stands to lift the car.
VWOG figured out the balance point on beetles, years ago.
So as silly as it seems. That one jack point is what's used to lift a T1 beetle.
T2 and the lot use two. One front and rear jack point. _________________ I have learned over the years.
