Or maybe it's just a me getting old issue...

I go to mount my front shocks ... and the bottoms don't fit.

That bushing on the mount doesn't seem removable. Am I supposed to drive the bushing out of the shock?

Or am I reading wrong and it's the bushing on the lower mounting pin that has to come off?

Yes, take the old sleeve off the shock mount stud and use the new sleeve that's already pressed into the new shock.

Usually, I've been able to spray the old sleeve with penetrating oil and cranked it off the mount with vise-grips.
Occasionally, I've had to use a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.

I put some anti-seize on the new sleeve before I install it, so it's easier to remove when I need to.
I'm sure Ray will chime in and explain in detail, why that's a bad idea, and be 100% correct.

These got baked on by the guy who did the powder-coating. So I assume some heat will be needed to get them off.

Thanks!

I have seen people use a dremel or careful grinding wheel on them to release the pressure too.

I had one stuck on once but grabbing it with vice grips and sort of working it back and forth with a few rust breaker soaks got it to come off.
I think that was lucky though... plus it was a CA car.

I would try vise grips and if its powdercoat, score it around the base and move it back and forth until it breaks. Use a torch to apply heat if you need to. Shouldn't need much, one of the propane or oxygen torches from the hardware store should work.

I've had that happen on a few type 3s over the years. I just use a pipe wrench on the sleeve, so I can get more leverage to move than vice grips offer.

With the knowledge that the sleeve was supposed to come off, I got after it with the pipe wrench.

A little rusty there. A few minutes with a wire-wheel on a die-grinder, then some etching primer.

And I'm all set.

Thanks guys!
