help with vs shifter on my 67 split

i just installed one of their shifters and now i can’t find 1st or third. it’s either or and can’t seem to figure out why. i tried putting the stock shifter in and it shifts fine. is there a trick to finding the sweet spot? it’s drivable when i opt to adjust to be able to find 1st but annoying that i need to shift from 2nd to 4th and THEN to 3rd.
