To start, I like engineering puzzles, reading tech docs and generally wasting time re-engineering things that are "not broken".
I was wondering if anyone had consider rebuilding a stock Bosch fuel injected ecu using modern like-for-like parts or consolidating the ecu completely as small of a form factor as possible (likely smaller than a hobbyist could diy).
Overall it's more of a thought excercise than anything but i like the idea reducing the ecu to the size of a stock ecu connector plug.

This has been discussed, but I can't find a link right now.
The D-jet ECU is an analog device, so inventing a digital simulation circuit would be fascinating but in the end, pointless.
The alternative is a modern digital system like Megasquirt which used many of the stock components, but gives you complete programmability.

Yes.....I have to agree. The problem with trying to duplicate the actual "function" of a D-jet ECU.....is that the newer version would have to be much more complex....primarily in software and programming.......than the original.
You will basically be duplicating any of the newer more modern after market programmable EFI systems.....but writing software that gets rid of or limits the wide range of modern functions and sensor inputs.
You would have to program to greatly "dumb down" the capability, processing power and speed.
While I think the project sounds fun.....and actually has merit for when the ECU's finally start failing wholesale.....though we will probably run out of TVS's before ECU's.......doing it just to make the footprint smaller.....I do not see the usefulness of. Or doing it to add wide range tuning capability......just move to an aftermarket system.
If one was to make actual duplicates of the D-jet ECU.....made with just more modern board, insulation and dielectric materials.....and only put in two NEW items.....that would be worth buying.
The two items i would add:
1. A modern card edge connector
2. A simple dial....like the type 4 E models had.....that tuned idle mixture in 13 steps. Ray |
