Hey folks.
I have a quick question. New to Ghias, not to bugs. I found a 98% rust free '71 Ghia that does not have any seats. I cannot find info on what fits the seat tracks and was wondering what you guys did to get around it.

It would help to know what year Ghia you're talking about, and if you need both front and rear seats
'69 thru '74 front seats all have the same track spacing, separate headrests, and a catch to hold the seat back in the upright position. '68 seats are one-year-only, with different track spacing and headrests as part of the seat back. Earlier seats have the same track spacing as '68s, but have no headrests. '67 front seats have a one-year-only mechanism that unlocks the back when the door's opened (most of these have probably been removed by now). '56 thru '59 front seats have thinner seat backs than the later versions. There are differences in the way the seats were upholstered over the years too.
The rear seats in convertibles of all years are different from the coupes. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

To get around it, find some old thrashed seats, cut off everything but the lowest part of the frame that has the slider channels on it. Mount a sturdy metal plate to that and bolt whatever seats you want on it. _________________ Jason Hamilton

Are the late model seat tracks unique to Ghias? Or would other models such as the thing or bug seats fit on those tracks for the front? Mine is a 1971. Thank you! |

Bug seats will 100% not fit, not sure about the Thing ones. The Ghia has its own original tracks. And if you see an ad with seats for "Bug, Ghia, etc....", the guy doesn't know what he's selling, so avoid that
As a 2nd seat set, I have some Mazda MX5 seats on universal type runners. They sit on some brackets made of angle iron that bolt laterally to the original seat tracks. So that when you do want to switch to the original ones, you only have some barely visible 8mm holes left.
But for the original ones, yeah.... they are generally Ghia specific, no year seats interchange with the Bug ones.
