There was no front floor mat topic so I decided to make one.

Front floor mat styles:
50-52 Barndoor - very thin, looks like rubber "runner" material
53-55 Barndoor - thick, waffle pattern on rear introduced
55-60 with shifter close to front seat (Chassis # 501 706)
60-62 with metal e-brake cover, small slit for the e-brake
63-65 with rubber e-brake boot, larger hole for e-brake cover
66-67 no high beam switch hole, same as 63-65 otherwise

66-67 also had Brown and Blue-colored mats to match the unqiue interiors for those years.

50-52 "thin" style, used until chassis # 20-041712.

I didn't know that vw made a brown mat. I just thought that they were sun faded black mats. What body colors used the brown mat? Were the rear mats brown too?

The Titian Red/Beige Grey deluxes had the brown front floor mats, and the large brown cargo mat under the middle and rear seats. Not sure about the way back mat above the engine, as mine was missing when I bought the bus. But I believe that was the same color as the interior panels? Mesh Platinum.

On '66 and '67 deluxes, the front floormat, rear floormat, and bulkhead / walkthrough kick mats were all the same color.

VW called the color of the brown mats "polecat", blue was "strato".

Additionally, the Velvet Green/White deluxe buses utilized the polecat mats.

Add seat mats to that list. I have a couple of those.

Soooo, if you have a 67 velvet green/cumulus white with mesh platinum interior it would be impossible to source the correct mats I assume? I'll never find those mats, I can't even find the material that wraps around the walk thru seat bases.

The walk through seat base mats are the hardest to come buy. I have an extra cargo mat that is in fair condition and I think Hughseum? ma y still have one or 2 front floor mats.

Right on about the seat mats, I totally forgot about those. I have the original brown seat mats, but the picture above of my bus has the repro. grey ones. I would imagine those brown ones are difficult to find as well.
Not sure if anyone wants to see those, but if so I can snap some pix as well.

Jung, I need those Polecat / Brown seat mats if you look to get rid of them. I have never seen a pic of the polecat bulkhead walkthough mats. I would like to.

Does anyone have any clearer photos of the 50-52 mat please? Is there any texture to it? How thick is the rubber, are there different pressings around the openings? Does anyone have the one they no longer need? Many thanks, Dave

Since repros have been around for a long time now, and some of them are decent, it seems like we should start including those to help ID them later (and help buyers who might be looking now...)

Here's my '66 OG mat alongside the 211863711E mat from wolfsburg west, circa 5/2021.

Any size differences are just camera distortion - in real life they're the same size. Wink

I haven't driven with it yet (other things to get done before that happens...) - but i've had it laying in the hatch in florida for a few days. just smells like rubber. doesn't smell like harbor freight rubber. Wink

I think it'll be fine.

EPDM is the same material used for black rubber roofing membrane, and that stuff lasts for a looong time in direct sunlight.

I might go shoppin'.
