Can anyone tell me about the 1965 gold VW coin for the 10 millionth bug? How many were made? What is it worth in the original case with paperwork? |

Sorry,
I have no idea how many were made. I have the five and ten million gold coins. I was told that they were what the executives at VW received. on't know if this is true or not.
Value????? No idea, I have never seen others for sale. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

Thanks for the welcome, and the info. I sent an email to Volkswagen international. I will let you know if they have any info about it. |

The silver coins are quite common, and are regularly for sale.
The gold ones rarely come up for sale. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

I contacted VW, and they don't even know how many were produced. They were not given to employees, but given to people important to VW at the time the 10millionth VW was produced. Also, the coins could be bought at "bank offices". I don't know if that means a regular bank, or a certain type of VW office. It boils down to the fact that even VW doesn't know much about the coin either. If they do, they're not telling. |

Well Volkswagen, like most car companies I'm sure does not keep track of everything they produce. I mean after all they're in the business of producing cars, not coins. _________________ Yeah I like Herbie AND New Beetles. Got a problem with it? Tough.

This one just sold on eBay Feb 17 2011 for $656.00.
"Original presentation "Gold Coin" that is for the "Volkswagen Company". It is "900 Fine / 22 Carat" and weighs "17.6 grams". The coin is in its original presentation case. It is marked "900" on the reverse and "Bayer Staatsmunze 1965" on the rim."

I know this topic is specific to the ‘65 VW gold coin, I found this German centric reference site enlightful. It has some other VW related gold coins that were made available throughout the years. I like how they are also listed by year for reference. So for those looking for more info, enjoy the hunt and may it be fun! what ever makes your hubcaps go round!

After a few years of research and for future generations reference, here is what I have found concerning the 10 millionth Beetle. My knowledge comes from the collection of and asking first hand and second hand owners of these medals. From workers, to journalist, and relatives of those who were considered of high importance in Volkswagens success.
As you will see below different sizes and weights were produced, here are a select few, silver was “1000 fine”, and gold “900 fine.”
Volkswagen celebrated their 10 millionth produced VW Beetle in 1965 with a slue of medals, to celebrate and honor the occasion. Various medals were produced both in gold and silver and various weights, and sizes respectively.
This is the token created in celebration reaching the milestone of producing 10 million Volkswagens.
