53-early 55 are direct replacement. 52 and older will have different doors panel holes due to handle location

… it has been my experience that all older-than-1954 Beetle doors will fit on a '54 and while pre-Zwitter "ribbed" doors will fit, visually, they are different - mainly the difference is the lack of a vent glass, in favor of one-piece-glass, 9/52 and back - there are other minor differences too, but yes, they will fit and function in the opening.
