While Lee has been busy making a stellar early 62 T34 Restoration, I have been busy having the last of the bones dragged out of Trams yard in Oregon.
Ill be using the front clip as its in great shape - far better than the patched nose bondo cake on the white 66. It will be grafted to the final 64 shell Ill make for the convertible project.
On the blue car seen in the pics, I may use the rear torsion assembly, brakes, some other odds and ends, but ultimately the shell, pan, doors, hoods, seats will be sold on. The pan halves are shot, the corners on the body are crunchy, the roof is pretty bad - the the rest of the metal is good.

I was able to sell the body, doors and hood off in one package. Good thing as Ive had wanted to keep the chassis anyway. It will lend the rear swing axle - that combined with the IRS on the 66 now for a hybrid - the wide five brakes and identification for registration. Off it went to Mexico. Yah!
I also bought some yellow glass. I like the yellow fogs with Anthracite paint on the body The headlights will most likley be BOSCH H4's.
I set the Mercedes 190 top on the T34. Progress?

Thank god it didn’t go up to Santa Cruz. I didn’t want to see Clatters grand kids working on it
Although, it would be an awesome restoration. _________________ Keep on Busin'

Since Im back home around purist central for all things Type 3, I've been leaning towards using a T14 top like Pedro is intending. George set the top up with a skeleton 190 frame, but it fell apart while Ive had it. The one sitting on it was one I bought years ago for the project. If I were to use it then It will keep the squared off door windows.
The Karmann T14 one has the curved door glass like the T34 prototypes. Pedro reminded me of this last night. Stuff I knew going in, but Im going to be making other small mods to this car that deviate from a bone stock clone. Having squared windows is a big eye catcher and is starting to turn me off. I dont want it to look altered. The 190 top may not be a good choice moving forward as the lines look clumsy to me.
So Im seriously leaning to the T14 and getting a top frame soon. With the body sold above - I now have access to $, parts and can get a work space covered on the side of the house properly. No more tent pole BS.
Comparison to the T14.
This is what the 190 would look like on top of a 34.
One of my favorite verts.

I belive the top Idea is from a Mecedes 280 Convertible - not a 190. Its been so long Ive lost track of the details.

I don't know about using a type 1 Ghia top, as I remember it being too narrow. I've got a friend with a 66 T-14, and the whole car seems very small inside (yes, I've driven it, and rode in it with the top up). And while my old T-34 had a roof on it, it sure seemed bigger inside (width and length) than his Ghia vert did.
Will you be getting Pedro to help you make it work? This one I'll be keeping an eye on.
So you did get the top frame Tram had for it? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Looks wider and flatter than a T14 top. As Pedro say will all need to be adjusted. _________________

We were up at moms house in Ramona where I store the T34 Ghia project for the moment. I snuck off and played around with the cover on the OG dash. It had been covered with vinyl. I peeled it off carefully and found a decent piece. I see a couple of cracks, but over all in decent shape. Ill have to remove them and see if I can clean them up.
I also had a chance to pick up some deck boards for the cover project on the side of the house. These are 16ft long 2x6 redwood deck planks. Im going to recycle them in the cover car port deal soon. Im torn. Should I sand and stain them or paint them white?
Also found a future repair needed. Does anyone have a spare turn signal arm not broken?

Paint them white or they will be gray permanently in a few years.

I don't know. The arm in the T-34 I got from Russ was broken too. At least he included a whole unit to replace it. I used to have a broken one here, but I sent the broken bits to John J to fix the unit in his 66 Square. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I didn’t realise we could vote for the natural grey (gray). That would get my vote!!
Talking if brown, has this car been given a teak makeover in the past? Tge dash and steering wheel look decidedly brown in the photos.

Sand and seal them but, otherwise, leave them to weather naturally.
If you paint them, they'll start to peel and you'll need to repaint them in a couple years and need to re-repaint them in a couple years when they start peeling... _________________ 1988 Ford Festiva L

If I stain them it will be stain and seal like the deck. I think the lower steering angle makes it easier for some to hook their thigh on the signal arm maybe?
