|

So, my daughter is living in boise, and I'm here in Spokane, recently her ac fan started making noise. Like the bearings are wearing out our something like that. My question is can the fan up by the radiator be removed without having to take the whole front of the car apart? Has anyone had similar issues? The car has about 170k. On it. I've looked all over vortex, but hate that site and can never seem to find my specific answers. Thanks in advance. _________________ 62/70 Dune Runner Mini Mercedes "Eugene"

Yes, there is a plastic cover with three 8mm or Phillips head screws, then four 10mm bolts hold the fan shroud to the radiator, then another three hold the fan to the shroud.
There might be a few obstacles to work around (A/C lines, hoses), but you should be able to wrangle it straight up & out. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Thanks for the reply, is it 1 full unit holding the 2 fans in? Do I need to replace the whole unit, or is the 1 fan available? Can I just pull a fan from the junkyard? _________________ 62/70 Dune Runner Mini Mercedes "Eugene"

If it is the same as what the other mk3's have on them, it'll come out but not too easily. Obstacles get in the way. There are 2 fans, 1 motor driven and the other belt driven. May just need a new belt, but it has to come out to replace the belt. |

Guess I should have mentioned, it's not a constant noise, although it's getting to be that way. When it was a bit cooler, it wasn't making the noise, only when it got over 80ish degrees. _________________ 62/70 Dune Runner Mini Mercedes "Eugene"
