Hi Forum,
Can someone help me identify these two parts?
One is a long metal rod, hollow inside but closed at one end (about 5 foot long)
The other is some kind of bracket with teeth at one end (about 16 inches long)
These are parts that came from an automatic from '76 (westfalia USA Spec).
Thanks in advance

And by the way, there are no OEM or VW part numbers on them. _________________ '76 T2 Westfalia USA Spec.

I have found what the small thingy is:
It's to adjust the backrest of the original westfalia seats (which I no longer have; that's why i didn't know ) _________________ '76 T2 Westfalia USA Spec.

The long rod is the shift rod. Automatic only. The closed end is the front, the other end where there is a split pin is where the cable portion of the linkage is attached. _________________ SL |

Thanks. But if the closed end is the front, how is it fixed or attached to the shifter linkage in front? There are no holes in the rod at that end to put in a clevis pin or split pin. _________________ '76 T2 Westfalia USA Spec.

The rod in your photos is in the middle of the shift linkage, resides mostly inside the tube. The front most shift rod – the one attached to the gear selector lever in the cab – sleeves around your middle rod and is clamped to it, like a telescopic-type joint. From memory the front rod has slits in it and a clamp, this allows adjustment. _________________ SL |
