Well, I just put my first 200 miles on the GBE mid mount with nothing more than a `74 1600 with some ICT's and a Monza...I dig it, it seems to work well along with the urethane front mount and stock early rear mounts. The shifter also received new bushings in the coupler and hanger, and the feel transmitted through is excellent. I'm planning on getting the 2085cc into it this summer, and I'll be looking to do a "Kafer Brace" doo-hickey from swedged rods and clevis' and 1-1/4" 0.095" _________________ (3) '69's

Right on...Do the swedged rods interfere with the stock heaterboxes at all with that setup? _________________ (3) '69's

Finishing a moderate 1955cc in Super Beetle with suspension work. No hard/standing starts, but will be giving it as much throttle as possible around tight corners in 2nd gear. Running VW transmission mounts. Have a mid-mount I was going to use but would the traction bar be a better idea? |
The traction bar is the first thing i'd put on. |
Would it work with a A1 sidewinder exhaust system ? |

A square tubed traction bar will not fit with the sidewinder by A-1. |

Heres my Berg installed. Welding for this one, required.

Does the mendeola stiffy, accomplish the same thing as a traction bar?? |
In my opinion, yes but they are two different systems trying to do essentially the same thing which is to minimize or eliminate torque flex.
I have the Kafer from CoolRydes. My mom won’t let me say that other word.
I’m using it in a 70 Ghia providing support for a 2276 pushing a full bodied sedan with lots of sound deadening, custom speaker enclosures, two amplifiers, two 12 inch subs, spare tire and some tools, two people and a cooler with a single side cover transaxle with a 3.88 Ring, .82 4th and a Peloquin diff on CBs Rhino mounts.
While I have no way to measure any deflection and I’m not drag racing ( for some reason there is nowhere to do that round these parts) I do burnouts, fishtails and donuts whenever the opportunity arises and I have no wheel hop and I haven’t broken anything...yet. _________________ Volkswagen!

Yes it will with a new Gen 3 Sidewinder.

I would not put a traction bar on a Ghia. The engine pulling down will cause damage to the metal above the rear fender arches. They start looking a little wavy and could also help crack the fender lip. |

I ran the Berg bar for a while.
Got tired of it falling off so I welded it on.
Then I bent it..
Then it ripped out the body mounts.
Went with a bolt-in truss bar setup and mid-mount, still using stock rubber mounts and the bell housing padded trans strap kit.
Not noisy at all. Nice and ridged too.
I'm putting north of 200hp to the road. |

I have the Berg rear traction bar on my Ghia with over 200 1/4 passes I have not noticed and body distortion or cracking. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I have my homemade version of the Berg bar on my Thing and I tied the down bars to angle iron mounted on the bumper brackets. I figured that would be more solid than the body sheetmetal. |

The brackets are 3/16" angle with gussets mounted to the bumper bracket bolts. That area of the body is pretty reinforced to take a hit from the bumper. I don't know how it would wrinkle the rear fender / quarter panel.

That's how Berg does it on a Ghia. _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed
