Hi, everybody.
I'm having difficulty sourcing the spreader bar and the lever for my drum brakes - VW Bus 1972.
After poking around, it looks like the ones installed on my left hand side drums are from another year (or else)! Because of the differences, the LHS drum doesn't do much on the e-brake.
Anyways, these seem to be a rarity for the '72....
Please let me know if you could help.

The spreader is manufactured now I believe but maybe only sold in Europe. I have seen them available, maybe SerialKombi or BusOK.
There is a one year only pin and spring clip needed for the '72 only spreader also, the pin is under the spring clip on the spreader bar.

My tendency is to eliminate one year only parts. Without having done it myself, I am assuming you could just bolt on a later backing plate and just use the entire late Bay rear brake setup. |

Good idea. Though I do not see these braking anytime soon and I've just replaced my brake shoes.
I will consider the investment, once it's time to replace the shoes again. |

Messaged these folks. Let's see what they say.
Hopefully don't have to ship these from Europe as germansupplyscott is suggesting. |

You don't need to change the backing plates if you wanted to use the later setup.
You need '73-'79 shoes, spreader bars, brake levers and hardware. The backing plates are the same or if not the same, close enough to work without issue. _________________ SL |
