that is/was/ is the stupidest place to put any electronics in a car..
and VW has been doing it for decades.

with the AEB you don't need any wires past the ECU at the firewall/raintray.

I've taken AEB harness out in the junkyard in my dress shirt..

but if you need a CCM to make the car move.. let me know(PM) I'll look in our bin.

Thanks Dan, I was just about to PM you. I've bought one off of the net, hope it works for me, same P/N number. Glad to hear it's not needed for the conversion too.

Junkie, I thought about that, but the weather turned bad here, well, for the south at least. I'll keep trying though.

Long term project, I'm looking forward to collecting parts

Wow, it looks like I've abandoned this thread...... Life always gets in the way. I did shift some focus/energy to my '84 Westy, it had been off of the road since 2015. Still running the original 2.1 WBX, but haven't been using it very much. In the fall of ..... 2019..... I took it to a couple of bike races and festivals. I made sure to take pictures, a few more to come too.

My Syncro hasn’t been getting used or worked on since I’ve been focusing on the 1984 Westfalia.
We always worry about mice getting in and chewing up upholstery, wiring and fuel lines. Although it was a shock to see, somewhat comforting knowing there’s a snake there.

I've finally started to renovate the Syncro. Sometime back, I pulled the engine. It's up on the stand and I've started to tear it down.

Not really. I built it out of plywood just as I needed. It bolted to a cargo carrier. Lasted several years, served it's purpose.

Some progress has been made. Heads off, pistons removed. I'm not splitting the case or removing the rods, this is just a reseal to get 5K-!0K more miles.

The head seals both had several of these cracks. The head sealing surface didn't look too bad.

We all love this, right?

A slide hammer works well.

I welded a bolt onto a hammer accessory so a nut could thread on. The nut is just smaller than the C clip.

Nice progress! Which wheels are those? Audi 16's? Did you have to bore them out?

Yes, Audi and I used a router with a carbide bit to open then up. They are the ones with a 37ET. I've had a hard time locating more, I did find ones with the 47ET. Bought them anyway for another Vanagon.

That's funny, I have a set of these Audi wheels but haven't been able to find any info on what they came off of. 16" et35. I was looking for a spare and had no luck, otherwise they'd already be on my Syncro. Gtk that they require boring out the center.

There should be a part number cast in the back.
