My buddy drops these off in my driveway. A nice treat to come home to. I don’t need them. Except I want one for the spare on the 85. I currently have a steel rim for a spare and the lugs in a bag should I need. Now what do I do with 4 rims.
Put them on the 72 for a goof? Nah, I like steel wheels on a crusty bus.
Put winter tires on them? My stock size Hankooks tires do what I need year round. Not planning on driving in snow now that Oregon and Washington salt roads during our infrequent snow storms.
Sell them and give my buddy most of the proceeds? Probably, he didn’t want to deal with selling stuff on CL. I’m not looking to make a buck off my friends generosity. I’ll keep some money to cover the cost of having my spare tire switched over to the new rim.
Anybody have some thoughts on why I should keep these I might not be thinking about?

Are they new? Loks like the original packaging. _________________ '90 White Westy ("The Longship")

Original package yes. New no. They got some minor curb rash. Like 30 year old rims would have. But look good. I would’ve bought them when I was looking for rims.
Will that rim with a stock size tire fit in the clam shell without mods on a 85?? _________________ Keep on Busin'

I offer a free rim clearing service. I remove them from your premises and then lovingly caress them with a deep tissue massage and a firm rolfing which alleviates decades of anxiety and tension. Rims dig it. _________________ Casey--

So here is a new twist. I back out the buses and van from the driveway. Getting the 72 ready for a long distance campout. I assume my buddy with the rims left me these last night. I didn’t see them when I pulled the rims inside. But he has a late Vanagon with grey interior? I text him and he hasn’t responded.
They look fugly in the pictures (lighting) However they are near perfect. Better then I have currently
It’s like the Vanagon fairy came over. I still have all my teeth _________________ Keep on Busin'

Hold off for a month, in case by then you have enough parts for a whole new car. _________________ .ssS! |

I sure wish I had buddies like that. Mine show up and drink my beer and leave the bathroom a mess. |

Yup this was one of my first thoughts. I just don’t want someone flipping them for profit. I thought about mounting some beefy General grabbers on them for camp season. Maybe get a bit more off road. I dunno. All my friends run larger aftermarket wheels, so they don’t need them. Of course I’ll get the blessing from my buddy first on whatever I decide. Side note. I’ve benefited from the various “Part it forward” threads in different forums and have shared the parts.
Lots of nice generous people in the vintage VW community.

Wanted let Dave R know that his pile of free parts has come in handy for some other folks too.
Robbie aka asiab3 was over and noticed a flasher relay that he could use so I gave it to him. One of his clients needed one and Robbie gave him his old one.
Not shown in picture. Is the unique generator I gave to another friend, some bearing seals to another, and a carb to another friend. By my count that’s 6 people who benefited from you. Thank you Dave R for your generosity. |
