Hey guys,

So I have a strange one. My gas pedal sticks off when yhe throttle cable is propper adjusted. It jumps up as shown in the picture and then the pedal won't press. If the cable is adjusted such that this doesn't happen i get maybe 15% throttle max. Any ideas what may be going on?

Looks like you are missing return spring on pedal.

Could it be a model-year mismatch between the pedal and the lever?

Good call on the return spring. Guess rebuild kit is the first step. Any good ones people around here like?

You’re not adjusting your cable properly at the barrel nut on the throttle arm at the carburetor.

Also, if you don’t have the return spring, you need that.

P.s. bugbyte showed a link to a complete pedal assembly upgrade. From the same people who make that, I bought the X-cellerator gas pedal assembly only.

This has a larger, perfectly smooth round Derlin wheel, and the pivot is twice as beefy as the flimsy stock pivot. And ... no sled on the back of their gas pedal. The sled can’t get wonky, because there is no sled. This upgrade is as smooth as butter! It’s one of the best upgrades I’ve ever purchased.

The entire pedal assembly upgrade is unnecessary. Just buy the gas pedal kit.

I'm aware its adjusted wrong. Its adjusted wrong because that above is what happens when properly set

I don’t think it’s “properly set”.

Undo the screw at the barrel nut.

Remove the return spring at the carburetor.

Place the pedal, with the sled sitting properly on the roller.

Have a friend push down on the gas pedal to its limit, or use some sort of board or weight to accomplish this.

Pull the throttle arm all the way down, except for a tiny bit (Bently says 1mm slack, which is just a tiny bit).

Attach the cable through the barrel nut (if it slipped out) and tighten the barrel-nut screw.

Tell the assistant to release the gas pedal, or remove the board or brick.

Reinstall the throttle-arm spring.

Try this. If there’s still a problem, then check to see that the pedal’s clamp ends are misshapen and consequently misaligned. If they are loose, the pedal can get really wonky. In fact, do this first. If they are loose, you have to remove the pedal and holding pin, and return the clamps to original shape, using pliers or channel locks.

If this still doesn’t work, I can only advise you to buy the X-cellerator upgrade, and never worry about it again,

Tim

Again, if the throttle is properly adjusted this is what happens. It is possible the pedal and/or mount is warped though. I will be picking up a rebuild kit tonight to replace the broken return spring and I can check it then for warpage.

Ok guys, so everything is working properly now! First off, sorry for not taking picks of the damage.

It turns out my throttle pedal was warped slightly and that combined with the lack of a throttle return spring seems to be what caused my issue. I pulled the pedals, straightened everything out, and fully rebuilt and greased the pedals. It seems like the issue is now fixed. Thanks once again for the help everyone. Not sure how I missed the broken return spring
