I've got a lowly '69 but absolutely love the low back seats from earlier models. I purchased another man's project who already had a mismatched body, chassis, and motor so keeping this 100% original is not really a concern.

That being said I found a line on some seats but they are 800 miles away owned by an elderly gent who is probably not going to go thru too much hassle to ship.

In my mind the best way to ship would be to separate the backs from the seats as four flat pieces should fit easier in a box that 2 larger L-shaped pieces.

Is taking them apart simply a bolt on each side of each seat?

Has anyone faced shipping seats or has any ideas please lend some guidance? The pre-67 seats are pretty hard to find to say the least. Affordable ones seem nonexistent.

Thanks

On my 1969 I removed the high back hoops on the seat tops , then covered
them with Tmi 67 padding and covers . No need to buy seats!

when I mentioned another guys project I mean it was in pieces with no seats. Actually....it has stock audi A-3 seats but they are really not to my liking and making adapters and rigging the electronics (power sadjustments) is notjust not worth it to me.

I have looked for the highback seats to cutdown as I think I could convert them to lowback but thepre-67 ones I found are cheap and already what I want, except need to be recovered.

Thanks for the idea very much!!!

The seat backs should either unbolt or spread the frame apart and separate. See if the seller will separate them and lay the top onto the seat bottom. Then pay him extra to go to Lowe’s or HD and heavily plastic wrap the two pieces together. He could likely ship them this way or even wrapped separately via Greyhound. I’ve shipped two roof racks across the country wrapped like this.

I shipped a pair of nice original patina'd platinum 66 low backs a few years ago East Coast to West Coast.
I dismantled and carefully Jenga'd them into one single box.
Cost was just over 200 bucks.. and the buyer was thrilled to get them.

Most seats are worth that kind of money to ship. These were

We were looking for an original 1964 Ghia low back seat and located one in Tennessee (shipped to Oklahoma) - he simply put the whole seat in a box and shipped it - received, a perfect match - z
