Any thoughts on which of these two IP22 is 30 amp and IP67 is 25 amp. May also get a small trickle charger for starter battery for storage in winter. |
I highly recommend the IP22 over the IP67 if you will ever be in a shore power situation such as a campsite with hook-ups. The IP22 will power all of you 12v accessories when plugged in while also charging the house battery. The IP67 is essentially a souped-up trickle charger. _________________ '85 Westfalia 1.9L

Excellent. Thanks for the advice. I count on being able to use shore power and charge at the same time. (probably because my 50ah lead acid battery isn't really up to the task of the truck fridge on cloudy days) _________________ '85 Westy full camper, Subaru 2.5L, 5 speed SubiGears + 5speedbus shifter kit |

120ah Grade a batteries "scheduled for delivery" tomorrow! Have my 10a dc power source ready, BMS is on it's way. Will check voltage, hook up to top balance per Will Prowse vid and then build with thin cutting boards between, 4 compression threaded rods and mount BMS. Gonna ge gooooood |

Batteries all arrives, minor swell, nothung insane I think. All batteries identical at 3.293v.
Problem? They didn't ship the damn terminal bolts or bus bars!!
Opened top
All four nicely packaged
Some swell
Voltage readout
Interesting fusing of plastic sheeting to battery

They're definitely the "Grade B" cells that are de-rated from their original capacity. I've been running mine on a backyard solar setup for a few months and one of the cells will trip the BMS over voltage protection when the charge is almost complete. (I haven't redone the top-balancing yet).
I used these set screws as terminal studs– https://www.mcmaster.com/92605A129 and these low-profile nuts– https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/90710A038
That makes it easier to get a single careful torqued connection to the cell, and then feel comfortable tightening ring terminals or bus bars to that as often as needed without as much risk of stripping the cell threads.
I used the 3M VHB tape at the corners of the cells to form a battery pack. That leaves a small space for the bulge grow and shrink, but it might not be suitable for use in the van. The bus bars I got from the cell supplier had enough length to allow for the bulges too.. in case you make your own you should take that into account. _________________ "Gundy" - '85 Westfalia

Better frakkin not be! I paid $460 for these labeled as grade A from Ninthchit. QR codes are in tact and terminals are untouched. |

I saw this today in West Marine. A gel type cushion pad to insulate batteries from road shock.

Yup, plastic cutting boards already on their way, 10a variable power unit ready for top balancing only, batteries will be compressed. And have watched hours of Prowse.
I wanted to stay at 120ah under driver seat, so the bigger 280 packs are serious overkill for me. |

I don't know what they are called.. There is a type of cutting board that is very thin, like about the thickness of a cereal box cardboard or less.. maybe 0.7 mm or less and flexible. I don't know what it is called, seems like a good thing to use tho, so if anyone knows what that stuff is/was, perhaps it would be a good material for between cells? _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

Top and bottom balance.

It is my understanding that you can top OR bottom balance. Not both. For our intended usage top balancing is more appropriate. |
Good point. I assumed both. Will report back when my batteries arrive.
Amazon “Flexible Plastic Cutting Board Mats set” for the separation material. Couple mils thick and about 10 bucks. _________________ VW LT40 build. Like a Vanagon but 30% larger in every direction and 40% slower even in metric.

Awesome Dave! When installing the links/battery - be sure to clean the surfaces with alcohol.
I still have my 310aH cells to install. Dang engine conversion has taken too much camping time up this year. _________________ Brandon

My 310Ah cells haven't arrived after 50 days. The seller's website now says 'order complete'. Refund dispute started (again!!!). _________________ Jim Crowther

Kind of the same happened with my order. I contacted their rep via chat on their website and the rep said that the 'order complete' meant they had arrived in the US and were shipped out to me. She said wait a week for them to show up. They did. _________________ Dave O

My problem is that my seller (Alex Chen, Shenzhen Basen Technology Co., Ltd.) doesn't reply to my 'chat' requests except with boiler-plate 'what product do you want?' type of auto-replies. No tracking number, nothing helpful in the slightest. Not happy, even more so because Mrs fxr is extremely unhappy with the situation, seeing as how this is now the second time cells have gone AWOL, and I get an earful every day asking where the batteries are. _________________ Jim Crowther
