in my 1600 industrial engine I have a non og Solex 30/31 PICT1 that I am not so happy with, difficult to regulate.
What is the best buy if I want to buy an og carb, the real thing?
Thanks in advance for all tips. _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.

I thought a 34 PICT 3 would fit on the same manifold as a 30/31? wouldn't that be a better carb?

30/31 needs an adapter for a 1600 manifold. A 34 pict 3 is correct and a bolt on. _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's

A 30/31 fits directly on 1600ccsingle port manifold, but needs the adapter for a 1600cc dual port manifold.
I run a 30/31 on with an adapter on my own 1600cc DP engine, and it works fine. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. That's correct I have a 1600cc industrial engine single port and the 30/31 fits directly. _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.

Has anyone links to an original GERMAN 30/31 PICT carburator?
(The brand Brosol itself sounds brazilian to me)
Confusing: the german ebay searching for Brosol 30/31 I get brazilian made carburators.
Thanks for all tips: which is the best buy if I need an original german 30/31 PICT carburator.
Also how to tell if it is og german or copy (my mechanic saw it after a 1 second glance)
This is from the german ebay, a brazilian Brosol 30/31
https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trks...p;_sacat=0
This Brosol states clearly Made in Brazil:

I wonder now that I am searching an og carb:
Mine is PICT with no number after. What's the difference between:
PICT
PICT 1
PICT 2
PICT 3
can any of them substitute my PICT ? _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.

There was never a German production 30/31. Only 28, 30, 31, and 34. The Brosol H30/31 is a new world thing and never shipped on a German volkswagen engine.
A single port industrial 1600 should have had a 30PICT on it, exact variants vary by engine number and original application. It has 200 hours as pump and 2 summers on the bus and very few miles |
Cool information! Thanks
The 1968 industrial 1600 engine hails from the swiss army and I bought it with the complete fire brigade water pump. It had a magneto + distributor in one piece for constant rpm and a Solex 32 PCI carb.
They were replaced with the non og Euromax Solex 30/31 PICT (no number) and a Bosch distributor JUR 4 - 0 231 137 020 - VW 111 905 205 T (all brand new)
The combo worked perfectly for 2 years until it no longer did. I mean, it works, but requires frequent carb adjustment.
Is it possible with this information to know which exact carb the engine shoiuld have or is the engine number necessary? _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.

Was there something wrong with the 32pci? If not I would personally keep using it
Also, I like the H30/31 a lot, personally. If it worked before it probably just needs a rebuild and a good cleaning.
I know some industrial engines had some oddball carbs but I'm not terribly familiar with all the variants.
What's the current application for the engine? If it's a simple setup in a beetle or similar a good used 30pict3 should be a good carb. _________________ 73 super beetle thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=649622 Back on the Road!

Exactly, simple setup however in a 64 split bus.
Thanks, will try the 30pict3
PS: still don't understand the difference pict/pict1/pict2/pict3 _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.

I have found in my shelfs a 30pict2 would it fly?
I can see that:
30PICT/1, /2 a single adjusting screw in the left side
30PICT/3 and H30/31 two adjusting screws in the left side _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.

OK.
I have changed the carb and here is how it went:
OLD CARB BROSOL SOLEX 30/31 PICT
bought brand new for 2 years ago
When tuned took 5-6 turns of the start motor for the engine to start
Otherwise worked very well, powerful, cold or warm.
When warm engine took a little longer to start 7-8 turns
Had to tune it every 2-3 months the tunings didn't last long
My mechanic says it couldn't regulate the air flow very well
no play or wear on this carb
2 tuning screws on left side
NEW CARB ORIGINAL GERMAN 30 PICT 2
50 years old carb that was laying on a shelf for 10 years
very good condition
cleaned it and installed, the difference is huge!
nothing else changed or tuned in the engine
starts with a light touch of the starting key, cold or warm
it seems to be a little more economic and thus gives a little less power
thus when engine is cold, gears must be changed carefully until warm
after 10-12 minutes driving it flows like a dream
very nice quiet idling almost impossible to hear
one tuning screw on left side _________________ Buy the best. Cry once.
