My bus came without foam (but with the nice green plaid covers) for the upper bunk. I'm trying to find out how thick of foam I can get away with buying with it still being able to close. 3"? Thoughts? Thanks!

I believe stock foam is 3" on the bottom bunk and 2" on the top bunk. If increasing the thickness, remember to leave some breathing room between bed and roof.
