Hello,
What is the function/purpose of these holes under the rear seat?
What am I missing?
Thanks,

To let all the primer/sealer drain out when the body emerged from it's bath at the factory. They should have these in them: https://airheadparts.com/vw-part/plug-rubber/ , unless you play messy in there, then leave them open so the fun can drain away. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I can't answer exactly why they are there, but I think rubber plugs of some kind go in the holes. I found a couple pics of my '73's floor when I rust converted it and applied Master Series to it (all while installing a BA6 heater) where you can see the spots in the floor.
I wonder if those were some kind of drain (with the rubber bit making a "valve")... Which means I wonder if I should worry about having blocked the drain? Shoot!
You'll have to look closely at the pics, as the holes weren't the focal point.

The purpose of those holes is to let the river water drain out when you’re on a trek through Guatemala and get swamped in the middle of the night _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
