So I’m at the point where I have done my 20 min break in changed the oil put break in oil ( Brad Penn 30 weight break in oil) I’ve driven it probably 20 mi to get an inspection- now I have white smoke. Fortunately no noises should I proceed with my 100 mi break in?
Thanks _________________ 66 13 window deluxe

Wrong, drive it hard the first 10-20 miles, hard pulls (preferably up hills) followed by foot off the gas in gear decels (preferably down the other side of the hill) back down to a low speed, repeat, repeat, repeat.

What I hear is keep changing the revs, as in drive on streets where you shift gears. Do rev it to a normal place where you'd shift up, then shift up.
Just don't stay at a constant rev for more than ~ 5 mins.
As in don't get on the freeway for more than an exit or two. Feel free to drive at normal cruising speed. Don't lug it.
I hear it can burn oil until the rings are 'set'. Burning oil means white smoke. So don't worry. Drive around until 300 miles, then adjust the valves and change the oil. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Exactly, you have to force the rings against the cylinder walls followed by decels to pull some oil through and wash out the scrapings. Get out and drive it hard, if anything was going to let go it already would have, there's a chance you may still get those rings to seat with enough work. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks for the replies, funny you say condensation. When I started up I have water coming out of the pipe. My garage is cold when I take my bus outside it’s fogged up. I’m gonna go beat on it tonight. I’ll report back with my findings. _________________ 66 13 window deluxe

The rings should have no problem seating if the cylinders were round and properly honed. |
