That's some awesome detailing Marc, can't wait to see them on the Ghia.

I have used Bar Keepers Friend for years, best cleaner out there. Using that and one of the Mr Clean cleansing sponges get's rid of a lot of crud!!!

Try getting a good Ceramic Sealer like F11 or Torque Detail Ceramic Shine. Used correctly, this stuff should keep the wheel chrome protected for a while...just something to consider, read up on it or check you tube.
Jeff

Thank you Jeff. I will research those sealers for sure. I would think those would protect better than just car wax. I just learned about Bar Keepers Friend last year. Amazing stuff. I'm thinking of trying to use it to dip small parts like lug bolts and other hardware to remove rust.

Thank you. I'm very happy with the tires so far. I haven't had a car with white walls since the 80's. These were quite reasonable, just under $400 delivered.

Thank you Diane. I wasn't sure I wanted to use the Chromes for the car or not. Mostly because they had pitting and rust in places.
I didn't think they would clean up so well so I'm very pleased with them now.

I finally got all but one part back from Bill, the only part he couldn't give me was the light/handle for the engine lid.
While buffing it, the pad spun off the buffer damaging the paint so it has to be stripped and redone.

You might recall I have two speaker grills. The original which I had to repair after I broke it during the windshield removal, and
the other is a new repro. Hard to tell the difference?

One of the few reproduction parts that are well done. Even fits perfect on the 62 dash.

I finally get to see how the car looks with the new white wall tires. While the car was up on blocks, I installed the last steering
limit bolt and some missing cotter pins on the front end. I've put a lot of elbow grease into cleaning up and polishing these old
wheels and hubcaps. I'm very satisfied with how they look. White walls don't pop as much on a light colored car, but they certainly
are part of the 60's and 70's and I like the look. The garage that mounted the tires actually said "Do you want the white walls
on the inside or outside?" Really!!?? d'oh!

Thank you. I'm getting very anxious to get it on the road. Summers are very short here though so at this pace, I'll be lucky if I can put a few hundred miles on it before having to park it for winter.

Thank you. Well, it's not as perfect as I wish, but it's a lot better than it was. It's a good solid car.

Anxious to see some updates on yours.

Thank you Vlad. The color has a bit of a chameleon affect with different lighting. In the garage, it looks yellow. Out in bright sun light it looks white. With the white walls, it contrasts well enough to make it look more ivory or cream.

Hi Max,
I'm laughing because I pushed it outside just for the pictures and then pushed it back in. I still have a few loose wires
and I hate to start it until I've drained the 2 year old Ethanol gas and put fresh fresh Vermont non ethanol back in. Last time I started
it was last November and it started and ran good. When I start it I want to be able to take it for a test drive and right now
it would not pass VT inspection.

Looking for some experienced information please about the hardware for mounting the Fuel fill cover. I want to put
it all back to original factory hardware. Car came with Philips screws and the washers you see in the picture - split washers.

I have a separate fuel lid that came from a salvaged car and it came with this plate, same type split washers, and 8mm bolts.

Pretty sure the plate is factory as I can seen the outline for it on my car, but it was missing when I got the car.

Would the factory have used Philips screws or bolts?

These split washers don't seem correct either yet both lids came with them? I would have expected to find spring washers? Yes?

And lastly, what gets paint if anything? The hardware from the spare lid was painted red, but I suspect it's a repaint? There was no primer and only one coat of paint.

Thanks for any information.

Hi Marc, mine has the little bolts, I replaced them with stainless steel and believe I used the split/lock washers under the fender, I think the spring washers are probably correct factory as I have a lot of those with factory original parts. Not sure what you mean by what gets painted, you mean the bolts and that backing plate? I don't remember if I had that backing plate, if that's what that is, now that I think about it I should check. The only thing painted on mine is the lid, inside and out. But I would paint that plate to protect it.

Thanks Jeff. I think the bolts and washers would not have paint, but the spare fuel lid came from a red car and both the plate and the bolts are painted red. Yet there's no primer under the red paint?? I suspect it's a repaint? Odd that the plate has only one coat of paint?
