Ok, first off, I have searched the numerous forums as well as tried many of the techniques, with no success. So I have moved my shift plate all ove4 the place and still could not shift through the gears. Sometimes I could shift up, but never down shift. Sometimes I could get to shift up through all gears, but still not down shift or get it into reverse. I was at the point of pricing another trans. This weekend just for shits and giggles I turned the shift plate 180. As in backwards(it was installed correctly initially)Bam! I can shift through all the gears up and down as well as get it into reverse. What the heck man. It is a aftermarket, probably Cip1 shift plate, Any ideas? I’m toying with the idea of pulling it back out and grinding on the inner surface to see what happens with that, there cheap enough to replace. Just wondering if any one else has been here and what you did to get past this pain in the bus.

How’s the coupler and shift rod bushings? All inexpensive stuff that’s easy to replace.

throw that pile of shit away and find a nice OE one. the aftermarket ones are just not even close to being correct.

i have done a few write ups on how to make the bus shift proper by rebuilding the shifter itself. search my name and shifter, it should pop up

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public.

Thanks skills, Not that I’m some kinda know it all, but I was kinda suspecting that it was something to do with the stamping. I cut keys at my hardware store and we frequently tell people that a copy of a copy of a copy probably won’t work any more. Same principle here I suspect. I’ll also check out your links. Done beetles a million times with no problem but this bus is fighting me at every turn.
