I din't want to highjack anyones thread but you guys are scaring me with all of the ill fitting rubber seal stories. Yikes! By the time i get ready to do mine i may know all of the ones to NOT use! |
And it's not just gaskets and seals. I'm finding just about every reproductions part needs some level of modification
Pair of 70/71 Euro Tail Lights from CIP1. They look fantastic, in fact side by side with the originals, it's very difficult to tell the difference. BUT: They didn't fit without grinding down part of the back side. I almost gave up on them and then figured out what needed to be done. The manufacturer and the seller obviously are not test fitting these parts. They could fix the problem in minutes, and have happy customers.
Pair of 70/71 Armrests from CIP1. Half an inch too small. The threaded posts don't line up with the factory holes in the original door panels. Fine if you have reproduction door panels, or if you don't mind drilling a new hole in the original door panels. I was not impressed with CIP1's reply about this. I had to pay return shipping to return them.
What I've seen so far makes me wonder how these companies get away with selling this stuff! _________________ Marc

Ugh. I have been fortunate as the Bus is mostly done and there really isnt alot to a bus and even the The Thing is very simple and other than the rear elephant feet turn signal lenses, finding the correct stuff for it has been relatively easy and the repop stuff is pretty decent for Things. This Ghia may wind up giving me severe agita! _________________ July 1959 Mango Standard Bus aka Obus L346 L347 https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=256592&highlight=

Bumper doesn’t look to have the holes for the backup lights so it has to be pre 67.
I forget when they changed the lower rear fender from the early to later style, if that was 67 and later or not which I think they also then changed the corner pieces of the bumper? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

i just dont know if the rear towel bars wrap around far enough like i think they are supposed to and yes if the ends are long enough? Ill have to look at pics whn i get home from work and then try to mock it up on my Ghia. hmmmm |
This is my '58 when it first arrived...your towel rails would have been the same.
They weren't in great shape and the chrome shops around here didn't have a great reputation. I wanted the clean Euro style bumpers anyway so I went the SS route.

AFAIK the only time the bars got shorter is when they went to the 70-71 rear reflector and had to shorten the bars. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!
