I had removed my heads to replace the piston rings. I put on new piston rings and pushrod tubes, but when I try to re-tighten the head I can not get it tighten all he way, a gap remains. Here are some photos to illustrate what is happening:
Thank you in advance for the help. |

Your cylinders are upsidedown. That's a new one.
Don't forget the air deflector before you put the pushrod tubes in. |

Must be a new style of cylinder from China. Never scene this style of inverted cylinder.
I bet if you remove the cylinders and flip them over the heads will tighten down. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Also don't forget to extend the ends of your new pushrod tubes to get the proper crush when you tighten down the cylinder heads after you flip the cylinders around. _________________ scrapyards are for quitters

I thought the upside down cylinders were a staged joke too. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Since the top of the cylinder is apx. 1/4" larger dia. than the bottom it won't even begin to go in the case, so it's a joke for sure. |

Awesome! I have repaired that before! A repeat, decent customer was trying to change his own oil (save a few bucks), and, “could not get the oil to stay in the engine.” He paid for a hook to pick it up and drag it over to me. Got it on the lift and that is what I saw! Exactly! He had managed to glue it back on with red silicon!
Turned out the tow truck costs more than the repair!

A least the cylinder head was the right way up.
The tragedy is if the OP really meant it. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery

We have all made some silly mistakes.
Dropped fp stud into a complete engine. Tore it down to retrieve said stud lodged behind the cam gear.
Or my latest bumble, installed an AUX vent 180° incorrectly. Caused a horrible stumble. Took one minute to fix.
But this is a first for me in the 50 years of wrenching.
