Was just doing a web search to see if I could find Tom and saw that he had passed in 2018. So, so sorry to hear. I am from England and wrote to Tom , a stranger but fellow VW enthusiast, before flying over and working at Camp Wah Nee summer camp in Torrington, CT in the summer of 1991. Tom said he would meet up and talk VWs whilst I was in town. On a day off Tom picked me up in his 1951 bug (on later floorpan) and we visited a few VW folks in the area and grabbed a roadside hot dog and sourkraut. I recall visiting Bill O'Brien's place in Avon, CT. In the late afternoon we ended up at his house and I met his lovely wife and kids. We sat on the rear upper porch and had home made brownies and dinner. Tom's wife let me have the recipe and I still to this day think of a lovely, generous Connecticut VW guy and his family EVERY time I eat or see a brownie. I have a photo somewhere...I must dig it out! Thanks Tom. |
Thanks for popping this thread back up in the rotation, Andy. Good memories of a great guy, the one and only Tom Matulis. "O'B" (Bill O'Brien) is also sadly no longer with us--another great guy from the local Connecticut old-VW hobby scene. I believe Tom's son-in-law is still driving and enjoying his old split window Bug these days--I see the occasional post either here or on Facebook. Best regards. _________________ Stock Steve
