Yeah, I dig them. I am lucky enough to have originals on my 58, as well as my 61.

And since they were dealer installed, no two are usually in the same place.

Here is a pretty car although I suspect it is a '59. Can you guess why?

Why do you think its a '59? The rear shock towers are the strait type, like all '58 Bugs. Many '59 Bugs have the angled rear shock bolt positions but early ones were strait. Oh, I found the VIN in the description. It should be a Jan. 1958 production car. (between 1774681 and 1815645)

Does anyone know if you can fit a 1600cc engine in a 1958 beetle.

Not sure if this has been posted before. Tourist made film from 58/59ish, also some bus footage at the end. Very coo!

Got this 58 a few months ago. Have all documentation of the vehicle. Purchase order from the dealership at Bill Stremmel Motors in Reno Nv. Deposit receipt dated Aug of 57. The car was ordered with the remote oil filter and snow tires. No rust, original paint and interior. Passenger seat bottom fabric was replaced at some point. I went through the brakes, had Dave at D&K in Yuma rebuild the original 36hp engine. Drives like a dream.

Its an amazing car. Lucky to have it. The documentation and correspondence from the dealership to the original owner is what made me buy it.

Neat, I didn't know that was a dealer installation thing

It could have been ordered from the factory but the can is a little larger than the Porsche and others I've seen on VWs. I had to hunt for a gasket to fit the lid and a late 50s Dodge gasket worked. Porsche gaskets were too small.

Coral was always one of my favorite colors.

Got a message about rim color codes for a Glacier blue L334 car that got me started on it again. Since the L82 is a common color with codes around I will focus the question on the L30 grey-blue shown.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

In looking for this code for a friend in the past I hit a dead end until I read the gas tank/arm rest support thread that used the L29 grey-blue code.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=411071

Anyone have an original paint rim to see how much different the color is? Id assume a slight bit more blue but just a guess

edit: added some pics of an original paint car

Too bad the tank didnt keep the gray so we could see the difference

looks a bit more blue

Would still like to see more pics if anyone has any.

One more edit:

Guess its a lot more blue!! Looks like Horizon Blue cars used the same color and luckily this book lists many wheel colors as well!

There were getting to be too many Stickies for the specific "years" threads (10 right now) so we consolidated them into an overall Sticky listing at the top of the Forum.

Beetle Year-specific / Registry Topics

If you specifically want to see when people post here, I would "watch" the thread so you can see it quickly in your Watched Threads listing (link from Forums dropdown menu) and/or get an email
