She’s back from paint hopefully on Friday, when I’m back in the workshop, I’ll get some decent photos of my set up, and post up for some further advice

So, it’s probably about a week away from trying her out on the road with the new Engine in 🤩 It’s Glass back in this week, followed by Engine, and interior soundproofing. I ditched the rear tarboard and will run just painted. I had bought a new tarboard, it was the Empi one, and let’s say I wasn’t bowled over by it 😂😂
I’ll definitely post up some photos of the cooling tinware, and hopefully a video of the Engine running 😂

So
I’ve had to work long hours this week at the Plant 😩 and haven’t been able to get over to the workshop at all. I’m really hoping to be back on the road by next weekend, as we have been invited to my wife’s goddaughters wedding, and said we’re coming in the Beetle. It’s only 35 miles away, and should be a nice proving run ?
Just got in, and stoked to have a mail from my buddy Steve to say he’s had some time spare today, and decided to refit the engine.
This is what he said

Started getting it all together, then had to pull it all out 🙈🤪
Who would’ve thought that putting a washer behind the engine to gearbox bolts x4.. to spread the load and by giving it half turn extra to make sure they’re good and tight would stop the engine turning over!!
Needless to say it’s a fine line between rendering a gearbox useless and having the desired clearance for the new flywheel
Also took the opportunity to modify the fibreglass rear engine to bulkhead tin so it can’t rub the new paint of the bulkhead and a little extra clearance to the engine as it was trying to fold in toward the box when tightened up, only little bits I guess, but it all adds up.
No one wants rubbing, and extra vibrations and strain on the starter motor = not starting when required… like outside a wedding when one needs to look coolest 👍
Just about to put the engine back in for the third time, and hopefully the last.. thank frick for the rear end removability

Very close to running now, some more to do tomorrow, but nearly there at last.
I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, but I love my Beetle, and just want to drive her again, as I said earlier, would appreciate advice on a running in procedure? as this engine has only been bench tested, and ran for 10 minutes on the car before the rear end mods were done.

Awesome work, the engine compartment is very clean and simple.
It may be the picture, but check your pushrod tube seals, when I zoom in it looks like they are cracking...hopefully just the photo |

Sled tins etc fitted, pushrod seals are good and
100miles done, and about to change Oil again 😀 I’ve just fitted new LED rear lights from Chip Birk over in Utah, had them mailed to a friend who works at the same plant as me over here, and he brought them back over from New Jersey 😂 they really make a difference in my opinion, plus I’ve also added an extra stop light as well 😉
Generally I’m really pleased with her, she runs and ticks over sweet, but, I’m a bit concerned that she’s not breathing properly ? I’m thinking about a solution to this, and wanted some options on breather kits ? What do you guys recommend ? I’m also going to fit Stand off brackets, sourced here in the UK.

I like the ease of these, and the ability to be able to close the deck lid as per stock. I’m also running a 64 Vert deck lid on her so should be getting plenty of air when I’m done ?
As I said, I’ve got lovely tick over, really good oil pressure, and excellent oil temperature, she just seems to stumble a bit. I have been running in for approximately 100 miles, I’ve been really careful with the revs, and the speed, I’ve not gone past 50, most of the driving has been 30 to 45 mph, revs between 2500 and 3000. Lack of pulling is more noticeable in 3rd, but she’s a nice lazy engine, I change to 4th and she just laps it up 😂
