Talked with Sue and said did vaguely remember the Stripe Blue fabric though at some point had the seats recovered in the vinyl Baby now has. Briefly looking online looks to be NLA. Sad

Also she remembered the PO's name was Klaus and was a German citizen, buying the Squareback for his year long stay doing an exchange program, working at Bell Laboratory in Maryland and then San Diego.

Plan was to remove the tank sender to do a quick inspection and this happened... Apparently the EvapoRust depite being well used and weak did its job converting corrosion.

The tank doesn't look bad, especially the pickup bowl, just need to pull the tank and clean.

Tram says you have another squareback stashed here in Oregon.
Better get it shipped to you in AZ, as I think you need the parts. Idea

I don't have one stashed. I don't know how much I can say about Tram, other than he has not been able to finish the repairs to the Telefunken Oops smashed, which is going to take a ride instead of shipping. I drove the Telefunken up there when visited you. Good things come to those who wait and of the people in my life, Tram and his wife are just a few of my friends who I very much trust; she does have my telephone number too.

I find it offensive suggesting to part out a low miles Volkswagen, very few left.

In case forgot, back in Sandy Eggo, parted out a Squareback and so have the sheet metal. First, Ruby getting a few minor patches before tackle the Squareback. For now, just want to get the Squareback moveable, still have yet to find a frame shop so safe to drive.

Why is it family has to be so difficult? Finally got through to him to leave me alone, good to have the headspace back.

Got a fully charged battery put in, no dash lights. Have 14,4 volts at the battery, to the regulator, then none out of the regulator and to double check, no voltage on the red with red stripe feeding the fuse terminals.

Did the voltage regulator fail?

Thanks in advance. Very Happy

If you are getting no power through the red/white feed wire from the reg to the fuseblock, the problem is that wire or most likely the connector at one of the ends.

I'm not clear if you got the beam bolted back in so it's moveable?
I can pull a beam & send you every piece you are missing.

Whoa, what happened to the parts pusher? Razz Hey, just teasing, glad to have a gentle reply and more so, the generous offer, appreciated. At this time, not sure what is required, though will keep in mind.

How about I recap?

I acquired another beam so as could rebuild off the vehicle, keep the Squareback drivable, and I seem to recall there was some issue with the original. When Brian and I tried bolting up the replacement beam I rebuilt, it became apparent when the woman T-boned us, the frame was bent. Being under a deadline, we mounted where did line up, think it was three or four, with two not able.

The front part of the rockers need replacing, have full length rockers for both sides from parting out Gordon's Squareback. My concern is pulling the frame with all the rust cause more harm than help. The driver side has already shifted from being on axle stands, didn't cross my mind until found the driver door hard to get open and now will not close unless forceful.

My plan is to move it into the back, however, it has to move under its own power and Ruby needs to move first. I took some time to regain my health, get trousers repaired and altered, plus alter a blazer, so looked presentable to her folks. I put on about 35 pounds of muscle working on Ruby and physical therapy. Thursday is the inspection by the city so got the weeds mowed and need to take a van load of donations to Salvation Army this morning despite my splitting headache.

My list for getting Baby (I didn't name) into the back is:
Get voltage to fuse eight
Check voltage to the ignition switch and correct if needed
Check that both FI relays are working and correct if needed
Finish cleaning the fuel tank and reinstall
Install new fuel pump and new fuel filter
Replace all the fuel hoses
Check and clean ignition points if needed
Remove spark plugs and pump out the SiliKroil
Obtain and install fresh fuel
Then see what other problems need sorting

I do have help:

Not a whole lot done, wasted time trying to pressure wash the fuel tank (the white chunks are just not coming off), spent too much time looking for the fuel pump mounting plate (if anyone has them, all ears) and spent some time with Ruby. Over all, glad I got what I did, progress is progress.

Been checking the wiring affecting the engine starting and running, as saw yesterday the under dash wiring sorted, now the voltage to and out of the coil. Turns out the blue coil went bad, thankfully have the Type 3 black coil from Russ Wolfe, however, eventually nee to find a mounting bracket for it, it's bigger than the blue.

I rather not cut the original wiring harness (upsets me what I did when young and dumb) so made up an adapter harness.

Spark plugs removed, SiliKroil in the cylinders removed, spark plugs and their leads installed, injector's leads connected, points removed, points got filed, points installed and gapped using German metric feeler gauge, and ECU put back (removed when welding).

A little progress made, due to being brain dead and forgetting to plug the battery maintainer back in; not going to make it worse by trying to start the engine.

Noticeably retarded timing.

And I had help, came up on his own when I was getting a little frustrated with the clamp nut.

No, does not run, yet.

Timing is set, just waiting on the battery to be charged.

I am keeping Baby too. Already have a possible buyer for Clementine once on the road and Anne will enjoy for a year and then sell her.

Thanks for the congratulations. Razz

This solution! I’m going to try this on my 67’ Squareback. Installing a stock exhaust and the passenger side upper heat exchanger is in the way of my 13mm socket to tighten the upper cylinder 2 exhaust port nut to stud.

Maybe I’ll try a 12mm nut. Only a open wrench 13mm can barely get around it but virtually no leverage area to tighten it! This is still in the vehicle on a dirt ground, so not ideal but it’s all I got. I realize this forum was a while ago but thanks anyways!

I hope this helps and get it on.

As for working on soil, so long as no gravel, not too bad. Done a lot of that, still do now and then. A big piece of cardboard helps, partly as not getting grit into everything.

Speaking of getting into tight spaces, I absolutely love this Wright Tools ratchet. The size of a 1/4" drive with a 3/8" drive. Less money than a set of 1/4 inch drive sockets, especially as rarely needed. I also use it where don't want a lot of torque, like today the oil pan nuts. As a bonus, feels great in the hand. Maybe it get to the nut with leverage?
