Hello Forum;

I decided to start replacing fuel hose on the 73 Fastback. I decided to start with the engine and the fuel injectors passenger side. The existing hose looks factory and is very brittle. When I got the injectors out, I noticed a hose crimp that is unlike what I saw when I did my forum search.

Is this a refurb or replacement exercise?

I prefer not to discard useable parts but if these have to go, so be it.

Thoughts and advice appreciated as always.

Dave

You have to use a grinder to carefully grind the connectors off & use new clamps on both ends.

Thanks Mike-

Well, that was fun. Slightly more fun than getting a cavity filled Smile

Yep ^^^^^

These were stock factory crimps ....and many years ago...even rebuilt injectors you might buy at BAP Geon or Beck Arnley...would have those same high quality swaged crimps.

Its a PITA to do. I hold the injectors ...not too tight between rubber or rags in a vise. Adjust the angle to fit how you are comfortable working.

I use a dremel with a fiberglass cut-off wheel. Put a piece of tape over the opening in the inlet barb to keep grit out.

You would to slice off little nubs of this area.....

.....without cutting into the plastic. or through the hose and into the metal barb. I turn the injector in the vise about two or three times. If you can get about 5-6 nubs of metal on that crimp rim cut through so you can see rubber underneath......then do two slots down the length of the ferrule about 180* apart....you can grab the ferrule with a pair of vise grips and twist it right off and then cut or pull off the hose.

Thanks Mike and Ray-

Checking the injectors I can see the small seals are cracked. Any recommendation on where to order? I assume I want Viton seals?

A quick google showed mid-america has them and NAPA.

Thanks, Dave

So-called FI clamps are better here. Worm clamps often cut the cloth cover.
