I just redid all of the brakes on our camper last spring. New rubber lines, all new wheel cylinders, new master, pads etc. We put about 2000 miles on it. It's been sitting all winter/spring. When I went to take it out for a drive last week it was pulling to the left. I pulled the right drum today and found one of the new wheel cylinders leaking . I put another new one in and blead the brakes (two person method) and now when you put pressure on the pedal is firm and then after about 5-10 second it starts sinking very slowly. It is/was an NOS FAG master cylinder. No brake booster in 70 so I can rule that out. The fluid is not dropping when this happens.
I did notice a couple of times last year when the pedal returned but It felt like the piston did not. Could it be a faulty master cylinder even though it was a German NOS? |

Of course. Would you buy NOS tires? Rubber goes to hell from ozone. Your money would have been better spent on a $70 MC from Brazil. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Old rubber is old rubber. NOS is very old rubber. Buy new rubber items.
Buy NOS metal parts, they will not age. But plastics and rubber may well be worse than new now. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

Thanks for the input guys, I have had a lot better luck with NOS rubber parts than some of the new junk you buy now from offshore. I've had headlight and taillight seals start to fail within a year of installing them. I went with your advice though and mounted a new master cylinder and the problem was resolved |
