What am I missing - fresh air connection pipe (photos)

All-

It's been awhile since I hooked one up. The connection pipe coupling will not seat into the top.

Both diameters are the same. Am I missing a part? Should I cut a piece of metal and fold over?

if the parts are not both OG VW they might not fit
you can widen the lower part to fit the upper part into it, thats how it should fit
you are missing the rubber donut on the outside

Thanks Karl.... I do have the rubber "donut" adapter....

Now you mention it, I think I do remember one of my last restores the lower section was cut...

I had a similar issue. Use a rubber mallet and you should be able to get it in without cutting anything. Make sure to hit it evenly.

Good luck with the donuts. Once you tighten the fresh air boxes to the heater boxes, the donuts do not fit in the apron appropriately.

Have used a Crescent wrench to carefully work around and around the heater bubble opening to work the hole a tad bit bigger so the pipe will tightly fit.
