Just a guess... I bet the solder-mask will be purple.
What conformal coat are you going to use? ...
There is a great shop in Austin to get all your FCC testing done, if and when you ever decide to go wireless. Since it is consumer based, albeit automotive, it's not as inten$ive as avionics. If recall correctly they're called "Professional Testing EMI" It used to be IBM's test facility, heck it's attached to IBM's building. I was "voluntold" that i got the pleasure of going there in late July when we did our FCC testing. Great people... just to FN hot for a PNW boy...
... now back to your regularly scheduled program |
We don’t have plans to go wireless. The input / output and control of the unit is rather basic. There is not really a need for wireless connection.
I’m not sure about the type of conformal coating. We will have the test units next week so we will be able to test and make more decisions. |

Project “stable idle” has made a big step today when we received the first test run of our Vanagon digifant idle stabilizing units. We will start testing these bad boys next week. For 86-91 digifant vanagons.

Interested in one of these when you put them into production. |

Got a unit in my hands today to test the fit.
These do not have any software on them right now so they are not functional yet.
It’s so compact and fits perfect in the location of the original.
Installation takes 2 minutes.
You can see the internals of the original spanning over 2 boards with 1980’s components compared with our new and modern design.
The whole board will have conformal coating on it to protect it from moisture and then it will go inside the case and held in with 4 torx screws for easy access to the USB port.
It sits very nice in the original location and it’s lighter than the original which means less issues with vibrations.
Btw, who knows what goes in the plug in front of it? Mine had nothing there and no wires to the plug. I’m thinking VW put it there just so you can slide the ICU plug on it. It has rails the ICU plug will fit in.
The unit plugs into the original plug the same way the original unit does. It sits a couple on mm higher on purpose to clear the screws but it sits nice and tight with no way of it coming loose.

I see your comments re: future conformal coating and weight or part but do you think a brace between relay block and end of this part is warranted? I imagine not.
That's really awesome work. I only dabble with DC stuff, imagineering simple things, but can appreciate how much work went into designing that and getting an actual part in hand ready for Beta testing. Really darn nice to see.

I doubt it will move. It’s hard to pull out of the connector as it is. |

Waterproof is a good thing. The original tends to do this as we know.

Did you drive it in a puddle or is that moisture collecting in it? |

No special treatment on my part. It was in the stock location. Moisture collected in it.
The idle went crazy on it's own. Revving to 3000-4000 rpm without any throttle.
I bought a good used ICV and ICU and when I removed the original ICU I poured slightly rusty water out of it. I imagine the inside of the unit is crusty.
As we know the D pillar can deliver rain water onto the ICU.... _________________ Dave O

My partner says the new style conformal coating will be good for at least 15 years. The old style would flake as it got older so the electronics go exposed to humidity. |

A little bit more work. Code is getting written down. You can see a bit of it. Next week we hope to start testing on the van.

Looking good!! Plenty of stuff I can't see up above, but you are priming your array values with NULLs or zeros to start with, I hope? I'm sorry. My partner got super busy with his daytime work and is waiting for a window where he can continue and finish the code to run the box. |

Super interested in getting one too. I've been looking for a refurbished one for a while. I'd much rather have a modern solution. Can't wait...! |
