Hey all. I have ‘72 type 1 I recently picked up. I’d like to test run it.

I have a spare junk 914 type 4 transmission... off a 71

If I chop the bell housing area up, down the the left side (2 or 3 bolts) would it fit and function as a starter jig?

The jigs I’m seeing online say they fit type 1-4 (4, certain flywheels) so I assume it may work the other way around?

Thanks for any response!

Welcome!
I'm not confident that the 914 unit will be compatible with a type 4 and 210 mm flywheel, but the type 1 will definitely fit, unless your engine and trans are from a 76+, they use a different starter and flywheel.
