Looking for best solution to retrofit rear left seatbelt for the kids in 93 Canadian Eurovan. Shoulder belt on rear right works great as is but lapbelt only option on rear left is dangerous for kids..
From research looks like best option might be four point belt https://www.retrobelt.com/products/four-point-belt-system-with-installation-hardware
Has anyone installed a four point belt? how did you access existing lapbelt anchors and did you drill new holes in metal bench to secure rear anchor points.
Any other solutions available?
Also missing two rear headrests and having a hard time sourcing replacements - does anyone know if any other headrests fit these 93 Eurovans - increase my chances of finding a headrest to fit...
Thanks

In the Eurovan CV, there are two connection points for the over the top tether of child seats to be anchored to. They are on the underside of the cupboard (the one with the two rear speakers in it) that is located behind and above the rear seat - the movable seat that changes into the lower bed. You need to loosen the bolts and add a bracket or appropriate fitting for the tether to attach to.
These two anchor points are connected by metal bars to the rear roof area of the van at the top of the tailgate, so strong and purpose built. You can see the bars inside the cupboard.
If the retro belt system you are considering accommodates having the two over the shoulder straps anchoring to one tether point, then the left side tether anchor point would work for that. The lower belts could be attached in place of the existing lap belts, not to the floor. That way, it would allow for the seat/bed to still be moveable.
The headrests for the rear seat were an option at time of purchase in the CV. Most buyers did not get them because they had to be removed and stored nightly to convert the seat to a bed. Those few that bought them often lost them. Whether other VW headrests from the 1990s would work is possible but unlikely, since the rear seat in the CV is a Westfalia product, not a VW one. |
