Is there a way to get a history of my VW Bus? I know my VIN is not up to today's standards so CARFAX is out.

You can decode the M plate for some history. It’ll tell you what date it was made, what port it was deliver to, all the options, whether it was a tourist delivery bus or not.

As far as I know, the only way to get a clear history is through the previous owners. Like richparker said, the M-Plate can give you a lot of info from the manufacturer. You can also request a "Birth Certificate" with even more detailed info.

I have tried looking for the history of my own bus, but my trail ran cold when my dad (who bought it before it was mine) doesn't remember who he bought it from 10+ years ago. CarFax will only go back to 1981, when VINs were standardized. I also tried emailing my state's DMV and they basically told me "No, because that's confidential info".
