Made a little more progress.......I removed the rear hatch and sliding door in order to paint the inside and apply sound deadening. I also removed all the windows to apply paint, reinstalled all of the parts, and then installed some of the panels.

Its been a while so I figured I would post some progress.
I got a belt from the thrift store to hold the spare tire in place, finished cutting the ABS panel for the 110V Power Panel to fit, sound deadened the cab, installed new walkthrough mat, pedestal mats, and floor mat, Cut the new 1/4" Birch plywood sub floor, placed in the rear side seat frame and my Setpower fridge to check spacing for the heater, installed the transmission, mounted a engine block with a early support bar, welded in the engine cross bar mounts, and fabbed up some adapters.

It has been a while to I thought I would post some updates.
I managed to glue down the subfloor, installed a JustKampers sliding window in the sliding door, cleaned and rebuilt the Webber 40 IDF's, installed a new Butty's Bits throttle linkage, and worked on the engine mock up/test fit.

Been working away on the bus but it just seems to be taking a while to get anywhere. Anyways overhauled the axles with new CV's, replaced the rear wheel bearings, rear wheel cylinders, cleaned and painted all associated parts, and finished assembling the engine thanks to my friend Hy. Tried to use some Berg Pushrod tubes but they had rust inside which caused them to deform. So I went with some Jaycee ones and now it is almost ready for the break in run.

Well I got new wheels and tires, new battery, and the engine break in run is complete. I replaced the tie rods, stabilizer, drag link, ball joints, shocks, sway bar bushings, cleaned and painted all old parts(such as the control arms). Got new rotors, going to clean the calipers, and waiting on new pads, grease fittings, and steering coupler to show up so I can complete the front end.

I like that you replaced the hacked up metal. I have a 73 Westfalia and would love to passenger seat on later buses that swivels around, but I just can’t cut up my bus like that.
I think original high tops are really nice and it’s great that you’re keeping it that way. My preference would be to keep the type 4 engine but having taken 3 attempts to build a decent one, I totally understand your choice. I have considered the same option at times.
Best of luck with your project. You’re doing great work. |
