The British Army captured and used many Kubelwagens and Schwimmwagens during WW2. They were impressed with the rugged reliability of these vehicles. And that contributed to their positive disposition toward the Volkswagenwerk after the war. I talked at length with the restorers of this vehicle. This is the fourth Schwimmwagen they restored. They find them in E. Europe:

Man those are some nice cars up there in RI. Meanwhile, down in FL, a typical tropic thunder rolls in over downtown Miami.

Drove about 60 miles to a car show in Chesapeake City MD ... only 1 other VW there, a 72 Vert ... saw a nice Mini Cooper, Austin Healey 100-6, & a 1969 Fiat 500 ... amazing that thing only had a 2 cylinder aircooled engine in it

Adiós Miami until the next time. A couple of parting shots around different parts of town before hitting the road.
A fiery Miami sunset peering over western clouds...not a great pic but you get the idea.
Evening cruise around Wynwood Walls...
Correction, this is 836 going past the airport, probably on my way to Wynwood Walls....
All packed up and ready to go.
Mileage leaving Miami...
Arriving in Orlando before tomorrow's (well technically today now) Amtrak Autotrain trip back to VA.

Wow, that is awesome, I'm jealous! Any mechanical issues other than a flat tire and a routine oil change? _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

My already weak horn died, or at least I thought it did. Bought a cheapie at Autozone because the horn was getting 12v when the circuit closed. Wrecked the original horn bracket during removal, then the new one didn’t work….bad fuse. Have figure out a new bracket when we get home. But that’s it so far. |

Reminds me of the last seen in Cast Away. "And if you turn North. There's a whole lot of nothing. All the way to Canada."
Honestly, These pics should have been in a dedicated "Road trip" thread.
It looks like quite the adventure. _________________ I have learned over the years.

That was a road construction detour during nonstop rain in middle of Oklahoma. The pic was taken at high ground after 2 miles of 6” mud where “stuck” and “backwards in ditch” both likely outcomes. |

Thanks Everett, I take it as high praise getting a comment from the boss. The boy said the train pic is his “insta like champ” so far. Of course we have all the trains ( planes, trucks and ships) anybody could want within 5 min from our house. |

Fantastic trip, puddle! Will you be staying on state or US highways instead of Interstates as a change once you get out of TX? How'd you end up in NM when it's still a few hundred miles west of BigBend? Is your son used to traveling with you in a cramped small car with no A/C? |

Hello Rome: we’ll probably stick to the byways through ok and ar will see how mo and il goes. If we can’t make decent time we’ll do a hybrid. I have a family stop in northern IN and lived there so it’s prolly be interstates from there to my beloved Jersey.
We bagged az at Hobbs through Jal just for kicks. We went west in ok-60(?) to Guyman and dropped down the panhandle. We also dipped into ks at Liberal. (Silo pic) |
