Just one guy's opinion...its not my website, I don't maintain it and so I totally respect the concept of "this is how it works here".
But when conversations are ended with "go read hundreds of pages on that stickied topic" it can be very off putting. Some of those big threads cover a span of years. They're full of broken links, unhosted pictures and sometimes old information (example: WW fuel pump kits are bad!! Oh wait, if you are still reading five years later, they're good again!)
Kinda like sitting down at the bar and asking "Did you see the game?" and being told "We already talked about it" |

The best part is trying to search, but people inherently make lots of spelling mistakes, so you have to try to search poorly misspelled words to find your answer It's all part of the fun! _________________ 1972 Standard Beetle

So you find it far preferable to ask SOMEONE ELSE to dig thru that stuff to find the info you seek.
And find it "offputting" when someone suggests you do that yourself?
I see. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

Web version of the surfer's lament, "You guys reeeeally missed it, you should’ve been here yesterday!" |

You think being pointed to a sticky is frustrating? Try having posts scattered about, making it impossible to find the answer you remember being posted SOMEwhere, but can't find now. |
