How did you pick the battery tray? The one you have appears to be '66-on down.
Here is '67 style.
Here are the drain holes I mentioned.

yeah i realize the battery tray is incorrect, I had sourced the Corner Panel from WW and didn't want any fitment problems with a different sourced battery Pan , so i bought the WW battery Pan. i think it will work just fine, as for draining water from the little catch all pan, it is not solid welded at bottom and has a small gap at end which would drain over to the battery pan which has holes in it. _________________ early-

Finally getting some paint on the outside...
i used the 3m self leveling 2 part epoxy seam sealer to seal the rain gutter took almost 3 tubes. but it works great !
painted the Top first, then the body.
wow what a process, painting a bus is a chore, its a monster.

early, I've never heard of that 3M 2 part product as a seam sealer, please share. The assembly is a process please share as you go for all of us. Looks great keep this going, momentum is key, and I am being respectful. _________________ American Red Cross Safe And Well:

the Seam Sealer is a 2 part epoxy, it is basically 2 tubes attached side by side, that a mixing tube attaches to. it is mounted in a special caulk gun that will support the 2 tubes and push them equally.
the 3M product is 08307 - self leveling Epoxy seam sealer.
i taped up the 4 little rain gutter exits and got a ladder ready and had tubes setting ready to go. this stuff sets up in 8 minutes so it would be better to have a helper alongside to assist. i didnt have that and should have. it probably took me 12 minutes to get around the bus from start to finish and by the time i was back to where i started it was already setting up at my starting point. but if flowed right up to it.
it is expensive stuff and at this point with all the money i have spent i just didnt care what it cost.
i had sandblasted the rain gutters a few times and wanted to get a proper coat on them. i probably had 3 coats of epoxy primer on them before the epoxy seam sealer.
the stuff levels out and looks fabulous actually, i probably put it on a little heavy but it is kind of hard to judge how much you are supposed to squeeze out.
in the end i spent 4 tubes at 37. each and 70 for the fancy caulking gun that i will never use again. i bought 4 tubes because i didnt want to come up short, but 3 did fine.

Bodywork and paint looks nice.
How did you paint the roof? I did a bay recently and that was the worst part. Couldn’t come up with a good technique that didn’t leave a dry spot down the center. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Painting the roof was quite the challenge.
when i was just spraying the epoxy primer and 2k primers on top, i just used a 6 foot stepladder, up and down and i was able to hang on to the top of the ladder and reach across.
that worked fine for primer because i was just going to sand it and wasn't too concerned about possible boo boos.
when it came to spraying the sealer, and top coats i wanted to be sure i could handle it.
so i came up with 2 16 foot 2 x 10 boards , sat them on the 3rd rung of a ladder on one end and on top of saw horses on the other, and 3 milkcrates in the middle with a plywood shim to support the board and take out the diving board springiness.
at that point i still wasn't comfortable as i felt it quite a reach to get to the middle properly, so I put BELT around my waist and had my trusty helper Hang on to me and the Hose both as i worked my way down each side. i had a small step ladder to board my scaffolding, and my help was my ladder man. we started on the left rear , painted rear to forward and repeated on the other side.
once i put the sealer coat on i was getting a feel for how it was going to go so we made some adjustments to get it right. but that was the process.
i did add an extra slow reducer to my sealer to keep the paint finish open as long as possible so i could catch up with it on the other side.
when i got to the Single Stage paint, i added a bit of Retarder to the paint to do the same , keep it open a bit longer and allow for the paint to flow.
i'm not a professional painter by any means, just one of those guys that will attempt most anything i think i can reasonably get away with. if i didnt think i could pull it off i would have farmed it out.
i do have a couple spots that will need a little sanding and buffing , and i am hoping it all turns out okay in the end.
bottom line is : Painting a bus is quite an undertaking. there is so much that can go wrong.

Really nice work! You got skills! I loved the Christmas Bus shot of you guys in your Christmas Bus post! Are you in Illinois somewhere? I'm just west of St. Louis... Congratulations on a nice restoration, mostly performed by yourself!

Hey Bill, yes, I'm in Illinois, 12 miles east of the river.
We actually met at the Dogtown show a couple years ago and again this year at buses at Bevo.
Cheers... _________________ early-
