As with most Australian market VW's the Golf didn't exactly follow the European build details and Swallowtails lived on over here until 1976.
When looking for a first car for my son, this came up for sale in Sydney and even though it was in a thousand pieces, a 2200km round trip away and all I had to go off was a few photos, it was a done deal and we were heading south with a trailer the following weekend.

Its effectively a crossover model. Has all the swallowtail features except the actual swallowtail! Rolling Eyes

Fast forward a year or so later and it was road worthy and catching up with the relatives.

Very nice looking early Golf.

I had a 11/74 Rabbit Swallowtail. Very bare bones VW.

They're not on it anymore, the OP had fitted them. That photo was before it was on the road.
