My 59 came with a passenger footrest. Was this an original accessory for
KGs in 59? Anyone have a picture of one in a lowlight?
Thanks

The "factory" footrest was introduced Aug 6th, 1969, in conjunction with the new front fender/air intake/rear taillamp (that is, the non-lowlight) model. One could probably retrofit one into a Lowlight, however. All you'd need is the metal plate and a new rubber floor mat for that side.

Did you really mean "1969"? or maybe "1959"? Confused

Yeah, sorry. That was 6 August 1959 for sure.

Either my keyboard's getting smaller or my fingers are getting fatter! Laughing

I have a 1974 coupe that didn`t have the footrest and I`ve bought one off of EBAy. Was this an accessory for a 1974 or did the car originally have one. Also, would there have been carpet put down and then carpet put over this footrest and then a rubber mat on top of that?
Thanx all, Art

Your 1974 had a footrest as original equipment,
not an accessory.
When purchasing carpet, the vendor generally asks
if you have the passenger side footrest or not because
the size of the piece will differ. (longer for footrest in place)
Rubber mat on top if that's what you want and can make it fit.

Help!

My 65 does not have one, nor any visible way of installing one. I ordered the rugs assuming it had one. But if it did the shop lost it!

I found a nice one but it is a double tab. Can I use it?

How do I install it?

Does anybody have a photo showing how to install it?

Thanks in advance!

Regards Bill

Does anyone know the year range on the plate differences?
I understand it something like this,

1960 the metal tabs to hold the rubber mat inplace were slotted.

1961 the metal tabs were circular & the plate had more contoured shape.

Then at some point (year?) it was simplified to this

I am trying to find what is correct year range for what a 1961 would need.

this photo shows left-hand drive and right-hand drive versions of the foot rest. However just look at the right hand side to see one from a 66 car.

this one looks the same as the one you show. So you know now this is good up to 66 and maybe further.

Does anyone know if anyone is reproducing RHD passenger footrests please? My Dad has a 61 Coupe in the UK that is missing its footrest and I'm trying to source one for him.

Would one from a Beetle fit?

Thank you!

Beetle is different.
You may be able to flip a LHD one, the ribs would be proud instead of recessed, but under the carpet. Fab one?

Thank you.
The problem is that Dad and the car are in the UK and I am in Canada. Dad might be able to fab something up, but I can't help him with it. He's getting ready to buy new carpets and is trying to decide whether he should go with a footrest style or not.
Flipping a LHD footrest might work, but it would need the tab cutting off and welding on the reverse side to lock it in place and Dad doesn't weld.
