The 1.9 used a control unit for idle by advancing and retarding ignition timing. It is mounted on the firewall in front of the coil. It has two connectors that you disconnect from the control unit and plug together. This should stabilize your timing so you can set it.

Thanks, Mark. One other question: My stock dizzy's Hall Sender has three leads coming into one connector (see photo), and the new electronic dizzy has just positive and negative leads. can you tell me how to reconcile this? Cheers
