Bella in Burbank is good for quality mechanical repair work at a good price. They do a good job and stand by their work but maybe not the place to go for a show quality pristine engine build. He's been around forever and is extremely knowledgable.

Yes, still looking for a good mechanic / restoration person in LA. I am in West LA Area, but Valley or South Bay is fine too.

Ok. I had a place in Monterey Park I was going to refer you to, but that’s a little out of the way.

Are you looking for a shop that will take on the whole project? What needs to be done?

Do you plan to hand it a shop and just say... "restore this"

Or is the kind of project where you maybe want to bring it to mutliple people over time as you gather funds/parts etc...?

There are tons or shops in the LA area. If you are more specific we could give you the best advice.

Some shops will destroy your car also Laughing So, you have to be carefull and find someone who is talented and takes pride in their work...

Well, crap. Sorry - I just looked them up and it looks like they're permanently closed. I moved from SoCal to Texas almost 20yrs ago and there was a really good, honest & reasonable guy in Monterey Park (Jim's VW Service). He was open the last time I looked (that was 10 years ago). Again, sorry about that. I'm confident you'll get a good referral eventually.

Just to note that Bela has closed. The guy was in his late 80s and still working until the last year.

For the Ghia, I'd give KGPR a bell to see who they'd recommend. You'll want someone who's worked on Ghias before..

Anyone know a good paint guy in L.A.? I need some paint matching etc.

Hey V-dubbers.

So...my loyal, honest mechanic of many years--Pete of Foreign Autohaus in Culver City--just closed up shop for good. Heard Bella's in Burbank is also closed.

Looking for a VW specialist.

Thanks in advance.
