My 1971 Ghia convertible is missing an engine and transaxle. I own some beetles from 65-72.
My plan is to use one of the superbeetle engines in the ghia. I'm assuming that will work.
Question will the transaxles also fit the ghia?

I'm stuck until this is decided. Thanks for any help

Hi Mike, Yes, the engine will work. As for the transmission, any 69 and up, (maybe 68?), IRS transmission will fit in your 71. That's the quick answer. You can search the engine forums to get more specific detail, though many here post there as well.

Yes the engines and IRS transmissions will fit if the nosecone is two bolt.
Your ‘71 would have had a 3.88 ring and pinion with an .89 4th which will help on the freeway. I think the ‘73 and later Super Beetles had a 3.88 as well.

All type 1s got the superior single plate trans starting in 1973. If you are starting from scratch I’d try to locate one of those.
