My wife & I are on a long weekend / work trip through the northeast:
Utica, NY>
Scranton, PA>
Swanzey, NH>
Lake Winnepesaukee, NH>
Utica, NY

We have a red ‘71 Westy, that’s more or less stock.

Ran into an issue en route to NH (in a biblical storm on Fri night) where we smelled a little burning rubber & then the engine got much louder & unhappy sounding. Pulled over, check oil, looked for obvious signs (ie. Anything from a fire to oil splattered all over the engine bay), but nothing really turned up. Assumed exhaust issue & treaded lightly for remainder of that leg.

In AM light, I could see that the right side of the exhaust had come loose (& was missing one of the studs) & in shaking loose, also separated from the heater book at the sleeve.

Fortunately, I was about 15mi away from John’s Car Corner in Westminster, VT. I drove over & met w/ John & 2 of his buddies. They diagnosed the problem quickly, got me a few parts, explained all I needed to know & do & sent me on my way. (All fixed in hotel parking lot 😂).

I know this is long (TLDR) - but wanted to give a little shout out to John’s Car Corner for his help & knowledge. Wish I had more time to sit & chat (& drool over all the VW stuff in his ‘corner’)

Cheers

Hi all,

I wasn't happy when my husband retired and decided to drive across the country and back in his old VW Bus. But I gave him a camera and a shot list and we ended up having a great time documenting his travels (and travails, lol).

I hope you enjoy this video of the trip from Massachusetts to California...

And the trip home again...

Very Happy

Thank you for sharing your husband's journeys - I finally took a quiet moment and watched - great!

Hello all,
My buddy and I are spending a week driving our buses from New Jersey to West Virginia to do some camping. We want to drive half way and find a camp spot off of Highway 220 bordering Pennsyvania and Maryland, has anyone camped in this area or know of any spots, the more desolate the better
Thank you
Tom
