PTL Baby Jesus, and Amen!

All of this nightmare over a wheel cylinder that you didn't check out.

But-unless you were doing your own cylinder rebuilding, and would have to have it apart--who would have taken a new one apart to look?

Not me either.

Let this be a lifetime notation to take a peak from now on--just for the hell of it--

Cheech & Chong may have missed than one after lunch & their siesta-- Wink

Yeah, they both looked like the same manufacturer and after checking one and finding springs inside (requiring bleeding again), I just figured the other was the same - NOT. Embarassed

I missed this thread and for posterity, I would mention that the diesel vacuum pump nipple contains a check valve. An additional check valve in the line is only needed if you are running other vacuum accessories, e.g. heater valves. Typically vanagons do not have additional vacuum accessories, so a check valve in the line is not needed.

That would 'splain why there was none - thanks Mr.

I was over-thinking - again.

Thank you Gizmo for getting this thread going.

Most of the info supplied by members helped me get my rear brakes back!

I had to don my "humble hat" to admit my mistake. Glad the info helped.

After my engine conversion I feel the brakes are very stiff. Only thing I changed with that system is a new clutch slave cylinder.

I'm now leaning towards the vacuum line for the brake booster might not be setup right? EJ22e Subaru motor btw.

How did you set up the vacuum line at the engine? Got a pic?

Coming off the plenum. It is very possible that I installed the brake check valve backwards.
