They were the same price when I looked but...

Not anymore. Cool

Here is the old ebay listing with the same pictures: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-Porsche-356-/2544626...7675.l2557

Ended on January 3, 2020 for $39200.

Here's a complete 1961 Super engine for less than half that.

How can this be an original Porsche two piece case when it has no case stamping and is not tapped for the oil filter outlet? Isn’t this a VW replacement 36hp case?

uh, well, very early 356 engines were not fitted with oil filters. That came a bit later. Oh, and replacement engine cases obtained through the official Porsche network, did not come stamped with numbers. ‘Cause they had no way of knowing in advance what type of engine they would be used for. Just say’n. Thought you might want to know ☮️

Maybe a slight thread hike. I have a very early case, some early heads, 4 1300 pistons (the kind with deflectors) 3 cylinders. Seems like I could find a crank, cam, lifters, 1 cylinder, rings and bearings carbs and manifolds and I could have a funky engine.
I don't have the car, but t would be cute in my old single cab.
Rocker arms. Has anyone ever successfully converted later rocker to 2 piece duty?
Where can I find those parts?
Am I nuts?

Others know more than I do. If the original chassis from that engine exists. perhaps there is some bit of value there. But other than that one person, I don't think he will find a buyer at 1/4 that amount for a heavily corroded 36hp case with a P number. And a tapped hole in the stand. That is to say $2500 will be a hard sell.
FWIW, I've had a 1955 dated early 3 piece case engine 1600N, pretty complete and apart, for about $4000 advertised for the last 3 years and a hand full of inquiries.
I should put it in my single cab. Built about a week apart, late 1955.

I don't know if this is whine-worthy, but I hope it is. Looks a bit rough for $75k
It must have been stored with a sunken ship on top of it at the bottom of a lake.

Is it even fixable at any price point? The right side suspension damage seems severe add to that it appears the car is about to break in half.

Holy crap, that’s a parts car at best. I think his finger stuttered over the zero, $74900 instead of $7490, but time will tell. As seen in the last pic, the pan is completely rotted away.

Unfortunately, a new car will arise from the VIN tag. What's ridiculous is the ask is almost what would be expected for a driver-quality car.
The seller (and any actual buyer) is delusional. The resurrection plus purchase price will equal the roughly $300K it's worth when finished.

Restoration Design makes nearly everything needed to build one from scratch, and that's what will likely happen. Rolling Eyes

This raises an interesting question, when does it cross over from factory car to recreation? To me it seems if your swapping vin tags that's a recreation. No DNA so to speak is in the car anymore.

My favorite part is the statement it Was stored?!?!?!? Where did they store it in a junk yard beneath washing machines and construction equipment?

It's a B-T5 Roadster. No way it will be worth $300K no matter what is done.
