|
|
Hello folks,
long time lurker, first time poster!
My Charlie is a 1973 Bay. I acquired him in 2018 and am slowly restoring it. I also have a 1972 Beetle but that's another story
I have a custom Louvre window. It opens in two places. One of the side handles is missing, so I was wondering if anyone recognizes it or if anyone has ever tried to 3d print pieces for their VW...
Thanks for all the help!! |

send a image to Vintage Trailer Supply and see if they recognize the part. They may have it. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

That lever style is rather odd, I haven't seen one in a very long time. I'll bet the crank style openers fit in the same hole and do the same thing.
Google "vintage camper window parts", plenty of stores selling parts for jalousie windows come up. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

You could disassemble the pieces, and send them to a mail-in 3D scanner, then print the parts at a 3D printing service...in something like ASA or carbon reinforced nylon.
You could also post pics and dimensions of the parts... maybe someone could make a CAD model and post it here (and you could skip the 3D scan), if it's easy enough.... |

Use that one as a templet and cut one out of a piece of sheet metal flat stock that thickness (Ace hardware). |

Thanks for all the replies!
yeah it is an odd model. I've seen it only on my bus, but some people told me it was common in the UK (I'm in Ireland myself).
I will try first to see if the places you've recommended recognize the part, and if all else fails, I will disassemble the mechanism and take pictures... and maybe metahacker can help me
I'll let you guys know, I knew you would be super helpful. Thanks! |

Ok no one might care but just for posterity - I bought a universal jalousie window operator and was super excited BUT it didn't work.
The mechanism looked the same but it's different from anything else I've seen on the market.
Last resort is to disassemble the working one and try to figure out the 3d printing.
Will probably do another post if I solve it. In the meantime, thanks y'all. |

Its a Devon handle. My 1974/75 conversion has a single cast piece of aluminium with a flattened tip, no plastic.
Look around you might find a tool with a PVC handle or use some wire sleeving or wire insulation that you can put over the end.
Or make a wooden handle out of two pieces of wood and fix it over the end. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

Thanks mikedjames, I did figure out it was a Devon handle after some painful research. But not even Devon conversions in the UK (THE original Devon guys) have it or know how to get it.
So now I will rig one myself, but to do that I will have to disassemble it first.
Would you be so kind to share a pic of your one? It might give me an idea on how to rig one up easily.
Thanks a million! |
